Day 37

The Pentecost Prayer Team | Day 37 of 50 | Day 7 in Acts 29 | Acts chapter 10:

I have lived in my new house since last September and I have only met the people next door and the man across the street.  I don’t know them very well. We wave and smile at other neighbors but that is as far as it goes. This brings questions to mind. Do I really love them? On what basis would they be ready to hear the good news of Jesus the Christ? If they don’t know me, how can I model a life-giving gospel before them? The fact is that I am saying with Peter, “Surely not, Lord!”

Now, I rationalize that by some of the other things I do I am loving my neighbor. While this is true, it is not the whole truth. Acts 29 says, “Diligently request ministering homes to reach out to their neighborhoods with Bible studies, coffees, fellowships, backyard Bible clubs for kids, etc.” I would add at least one more: prayer groups. Pray for the Holy Spirit to create opportunities AND to give you a heart for those that live near you. Our schedules are pretty full, and yet we “spend” time instead of following Paul’s admonishment:

Ephesians 5:15–16 (NIV84)

15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

Inside every home and family, there are needs. Pray for your neighbors. Connect with your neighbors. Respond to God the Holy Spirit, “Surely Lord! As you lead, I will follow.”
